10 Things for April
suede seduction, a damn good bra, a mascara that broke my loyalty, a brain-body supplement, plus more.
Dear Reader,
It’s raining outside as I sit down to write to you about my favorite suede pieces (among other recent favorites). Suede, a material so famously unsuited for water.
A contradiction, yet also not.
After all, we’re coming into April—the rainy month. These are the showers that bring the May flower, so they say.
The irony only lies in the fact that I don’t dress for the weather.
I dress for how I want to feel.
Recently, I read a passage distinguishing fashion and style. These two things— fashion and style—are different but are often confused as synonymous.
Perhaps it is just a matter of linguistics, but I find myself pause every time I type out the word fashion. The word hasn’t ever resonated with me. It feels fleeing. Without substance. A disservice to the way I dress, or something.
When I read this passage though, it clicked. Within the text was a quote from Vogue editor Edna Woolman Case:
“Fashion can be bought. Style must be possessed.”
Yes. That’s it.
Fashion flashes, it provokes, then it passes.
Style is steady, trust-worthy, akin to an intuitive feeling.
I trust that feeling, even if it doesn’t make sense.
Even if it’s raining, I still wear suede.
As I get older, I trust this is the secret sauce—not just with style, but with most things in life. To lean into the feeling, the energy I want to carry.
Even when it doesn’t logically make sense.
xx Megan

10 THINGS
WEARABLE
Suede Moc/Boat/Loafer
Was it was Mui Mui that put suede loafers on my radar for Spring? Not sure. Regardless, Jamie Haller sent me gorgeous moc-style suede loafers and I’m wearing them nonstop. Before I was gifted those, I had this suede driver style in my cart. I also love this price-friendly option.
Toteme Suede Shirt Jacket
While on the topic of suede: this Toteme jacket is like room-temp-butter, both in color and softness (side note: Toteme makes my favorite outwear — I just bought this Toteme one too). Get the look of this suede for less with this by Ref, this by COS, or this by Sezane.
New Favorite Bra
Fun fact: my boobs have never been bigger (thanks to breastfeeding). Finding a good bra has been nearly impossible. Then I found Else. I got the Bella Soft Cup Triangle bra (so pretty!) the Bare Underwire Longline bra. Feels like I’m wearing nothing, but still provides great support. 10/10
BEAUTY
Marie Veronique Body Barrier
Often, I donate my gifted beauty product (I have excess), but I’m glad I didn’t give away this Marie Veronique Body Barrier Emulsion because HOLY SHIT… it’s gold. It pours out—almost like milk—and it not only nourishes your skin but protects its barrier. Basically a lotion, but better. Much better.
Beauty Pie Mascara
I wore the same mascara for years… until I found this one. Quickly replaced the one which I thought I was forever loyal—it’s that good. No clumps—it’s tubular. Creates a “feathery” look. Gentle on the eyelashes. Only need one coat.
HOME
Gathering Basket
No garden to gather from yet, but I’m prepared with my new gathering basket. Right now, I use It when I assort large amounts of floral. I think it’d also be cute filled with fruits and veggies on the countertop.
Le Marké
This organic olive oil is not only exceptional in taste; it also looks incredibly chic on your countertop. Fresh olive oil and balsamic seems fitting for the jumpstart of spring—great for bright salads, roasted spring veggies, or even homemade sourdough (a code for you: Megan15).
Stoneware Tureen
My girlfriend, Kristin, led me to this stoneware tureen and I couldn’t love it more (the little arms are what got me). Will be great for serving, but also, to display flowers like this. Other cuties I found on Etsy: this vintage French tureen and this octagonal shaped tureen.
WELLNESS
Creatine Protein Powder
My new favorite protein powder—a plant-based vanilla treat that includes creatine. Okay, but really: let’s talk about creatine. Call me naivè, but I used to think creatine was akin to a steroid-like supplement taken by athletes. In actuality, it is a natural compound made of amino acids that helps with strength, tone muscles, increase energy, and most importantly to me, supports cognitive function. DYOR, of course, but call me a fan. (MEGANLKARP for a discount at Perelel).
The High Confectionary
Even moderate doses of THC can make me feel anxious and physically tense. If I’m interested in anything, it’s something small—like really small. The High Confectionary makes delicious gummies with 1mg of THC (and 1mg CBD), and I’m a fan. I only take one or two of these, and it’s just enough calm and bliss without a high. Of course, you can take however many gummies you’d like to take, but I keep it low for a predictable experience. (MEGAN20 for a discount).
Until next time!
love this round-up, the collage has me giddy for spring greens!! and yes to suede! i have a very old mango suede spring jacket that i break out this time of year and it brings me so much joy... i feel like people often think suede = fall, but nope.
