I remember when I stumbled upon Vincent James a few years ago on Instagram. Immediately heart-eyed, I direct messaged Heather (the designer and owner) to inquire about her label.
We were both small, and briefly talked about how, one day, we’d love to work together.
Years later, we’ve both come a long way, but Vincent James is still under-the-radar. That said, I recently posted this piece of hers on my Instagram story, and dozens of people responded with praise, making comments like, “Vincent James is my favorite!” and “My Vincent James pieces are my favorite in my closet.”
So although Heather’s label is small, she has created a very loyal fan base.
And for good reason.
Her ready-to-wear designs are casual, yet elevated, making them perfect go-to’s for a day of errands that bleed over into an evening dinner date.
Each piece reads minimal, yet remains interesting. Take, for instance, her linen dress with adjustable spaghetti straps, made possible with a bowtie in the back. Or her slip dress, made with a built-in bra and stretchy seasonless fabric. Or her scoop neck tank, made with a cut that allows for a full-coverage bra, while still exposing just enough beauty of the female frame.
Details like these make a simple garment feel distinguished, intentional, special.
It is worth noting that each piece is sewn in the United States and made with the finest quality natural fabrics. To put it simply, Heather’s pieces feel good — they feel good to wear, but also, feel good to support.
Named after her pattern-maker grandfather—Vincent James—this is a label that encompassed “quiet luxury” before it was a trend.
With all that said, below I share some pieces I tried on with Vincent James.
Regenerative Ribbed Skirt with Regenerative Ribbed Cardi
A ribbed knit fabric with a bit of stretch, these pieces are beautiful styled alone or together as a set. I’ve worn the cardigan mostly unbuttoned (like above), but also love it all the way buttoned to the top.
Also love the flare sleeve.
Button Front Linen Shirt
Not all linen is made equally. Some feels ultra fine and light, but this one has a heavier handfeel and is a bit more structured. Nicer for going into cooler seasons.
The Edie Dress
Similar to the weight of the shirt above, this linen dress is perfect (also comes in ivory).
Several details make this linen dress special: the square neckline, the interesting seams along the A-line silhouette, the long spaghetti straps that are adjustable by tying into a bow in the back.
For sure, the most flattering linen dress I’ve worn.
Scoop Neck Tank paired with Regenerative Organic Cotton Wide Leg Pants
These pants feel like The Row’s Antone pant, but at a third of the cost. Also, they’re a lot more forgiving with a stretchy backside, which we can all appreciate. A good staple to dress up or down.
Also, the tank is 10/10. The scoop covers enough for a bra while still exposing the beauty of the female form. Also love the loose fabric that allows more versatility to tuck in or drape.
Ribbed Knit Dress
Of all the knit dresses I’ve eyed on the market, this one takes the cake. I love the un-dyed ivory colorway made of a cotton-wool combination. It feels so good on the body with a slight stretch, hugging the female figure without being restrictive.
Slip Dress
Lastly, this slip dress, which is made special with a bias cut and a *built in bra*.
I have to note that, with someone with a 32D chest (helloooo breastfeeding!), this slip dress is great for both smaller and larger chests.
A good black slip is a must for all closets, and this one feels a bit less fussy, equally causal and elegant, with a subtle stretch fabric that works in all seasons.
So beautiful, Megan! Love everything on you and your style!!
