Dear Reader,
Would you agree that a good coat is the single most fundamental Fall/Winter foundation piece?
If you say yes, I agree with you. If you say no, that’s cool — agree to disagree, right?
In any event, I recently locked in two Toteme coats (okay, one’s technically a jacket) that basically made my entire Fall wardrobe on their own. No, really, I tried these coats on halfway naked, and thought, hey, these looks good all on their own.
As an Elin King fan-girl, I think her designs excel every season, but her Fall/Winter creations are extra special. I imagine she schemes all year round to create the most fabulous outerwear that makes you weak in the knees.
Below I present two pieces of Toteme outerwear I’m falling over for Fall (and into Winter).
First, Toteme’s Country Jacket
Technically a jacket, not a coat, due to its shorter length and coated cotton — but warm, nonetheless. Its brown quilted lining gives plenty of insulation, and the waxed coating is water-resistant.
To me, this jacket feels a little polo preppy, but also a little military grunge, baked in with a lot of Stockholm chic. I took my normal size, a 32.

Some features I adore: the brown corduroy collar (and elbows!), the A-line fit, and massive pockets. The color is gorgeous — it’s green, but barely, almost passing for charcoal. We’ll call it deep green-charcoal territory, I suppose.

I’m wearing this jacket with brown corduroy pants and an ivory knit, but it’s versatile. For example, I love this jacket over a simple white tee and denim, but also, would look great paired with trousers, a long knit dress, a monochrome look (all black/all white). Lots of potential.
Second, Toteme’s Wool Coat
A true, classic wool coat — a straight fit, hits above the ankle, and has the perfect oversized fit.

When I say “perfect oversized fit,” I mean it is roomy enough for a gazillion layers but also doesn’t feel overwhelming, which is an art form IMO (is it just me, or can oversized go a little wrong, at times? It’s a difficult thing to master — being oversized in a cool, effortless way without looking semi-ridiculous. Just my two cents). I took my true size, a 32, and I think Toteme executed the fit perfectly.

Other things I’m loving: the discrete welt pockets, the center-back vented hem, and the pointed collar which isn’t too pointy, if y’know what I mean.
This coat is relaxed, understated, yet simply elegant.
Comes in this gorgeous brown and also a charcoal colorway, both classic.
Similar to the country jacket, I think this one goes with so much, but has even more potential, especially when it comes to pairing it with more elevated pieces (I think dinner out or a formal event).
Also, this wool material transitions nicer into the heart of winter — my heart skips when I think about it paired with a scarf, mittens, a beanie.
Thanks for making cold weather more bearable, Toteme!
